Synopsis

Baseball is one of the most popular sports in Japan. It was introduced to Japan in 1872 by Horace Wilson, who taught at the Kaisei School in Tokyo. The first baseball team was called the Shimbashi Athletic Club and was established in 1878. Baseball has been a popular sport ever since. It is called yakyu in Japanese, combining the characters for fielding and ball.
The professional baseball association is called Nippon Professional Baseball. Japan has two leagues, as in the United States. The Central and Pacific Leagues each consist of six teams. The Pacific League uses the designated hitter style of play. The pro baseball season is eight months long with games beginning in April, and a Championship held in October. Teams play 144 games, as compared to the 162 games of the American major league teams.
The rules are essentially those of Major League Baseball. In the Nippon league, however, tie games are allowed, and technical elements are slightly different: a smaller baseball, strike zone, and playing field are used. The Japanese baseball is wound more tightly and is harder than an American baseball. The strike zone is narrower "inside" than away from the batter.
World Stadium 5 is the fifth & latest game in Playstation of the World Stadium series. This version of the game features new game modes and the Pocketstation feature that allow the player to create his own characters, play mini games and bring two friends to play with each other.
The most important feature is the new game mode: "Pirate league creepy." in which players choose their favorite teams and winning fights they get more points that can be used to get players from other teams.
The game features a lot of different modes:
- VS Mode: Play against another human player or against the computer.
- Season Mode: Choose a team and play a season.
- Free Mode: Create a tournament choosing 6 different teams and try to win the cup.
- Pirate Mode: The player compete against another 3 pirates in a map to grab all the treasure in each turn the player can move his ship some squares if in that square there is an opponent starts a baseball match, in the map there are also special items that can be used to attack the rest of the opponents.
- Mini games: Choose a character and play different mini games of batting, throwing, etc.
- Music mode: the player can select where to put the different notes and then listen to the melodies.
- Training mode: This mode lets the player practice batting, throwing and catching.
The game also features other game modes that will be unlocked playing the main modes.
